Silent Death

Strip me of my worth
until I am bare of all dignity
naked and bleeding
from unhealed scars,
exposing my shielded heart
to a storm of new pain.
Eating its way through a faith once lost,
washed away in winter's cold,
blinding and deafening silence,
enveloping and devouring all in its path
echoes,
slips away into eternal night
parting with its victim's corpse,
a broken, lifeless soul,
to exist forever in a daydream,
in a place of distant song.
Beyond the valley of empty questions,
above a lake of unshed tears,
where the fragment of her shattered heart,
the one she never noticed,
silently cries black tears,
wondering if he could have saved her.
